Slavery on the High Street

For seven years, vulnerable victims of trafficking were forced to make food for major high street chains. How did their exploitation go undetected for so long?

For seven years, vulnerable victims were trafficked by a gang into the UK and forced to work making food for some of the country’s biggest brands across London and the east of England. In their own words, victims tell the story of a shocking case of modern slavery.

As their traffickers begin to face justice, the programme investigates if the victims could have been rescued much sooner. Are major high street brands failing to detect exploitation – even when it’s in plain sight? As the number of cases of slavery continues to rise, are new measures needed to stamp out the trade in illegal human labour?
