Alice Munro, who died in May, was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 2013. Her short stories, often set in small town Canada, weave together fiction and autobiography to explore the complexities of human life.

In 鈥淟ying Under the Apple Tree鈥�, a girl leaving childhood behind grapples with first love, social expectations and future possibilities. She finds herself pondering relationships and domesticity after sharing a meal with her boyfriend鈥檚 family.
