The Four Rules of the Poker Kings

Is it really possible to make a living as a professional poker player when there is a family to support? This documentary follows players to Prague, Monte Carlo, Dublin and Las Vegas to find out.

Niall Farrell is Scotland’s top professional poker player. He travels the globe, is answerable to no-one, pays no tax on his earnings - which are tax-free - and has earned a fortune. Niall plays with his own money and enter tournaments where the prizes can be up to $10 million. It’s the life of a professional gambler, where fortunes are won and lost on the turn of a card.

It’s a rollercoaster life of glamour and drama, ideally suited to the single life. However, after a few years off to be with his partner and new son, Niall is on the comeback trail.

Back on the road and on the tables, Niall is allowing the cameras to follow him for a year as he travels the globe to play in tournaments - but does he still have what it takes to win? Can he earn enough for both himself and his family? Can he once again be crowned a poker king or will he become just another poker loser?

We also meet David Docherty, another poker pro hoping his luck will change. Back home, we discover 35-year-old David still lives with his mum and dad.

Next stop for Niall and David is Las Vegas and the World Series of Poker, with its $10 million top prize. What happens in Vegas doesn’t stay in Vegas if you’re a poker player. Win here and you become a global star.
