The legacy of Eric Liddell; Chris Difford of Squeeze discusses his spiritual life; 15 centuries of Scottish religious poetry from Mary Queen of Scots to Kathleen Jamie.

A new edition of a landmark poetry collection has recently been published, the ‘Scottish Religious Poetry from the Sixth Century to the Present’. It includes a diverse range of voices, from Mary Queen of Scots through to the current Makar Kathleen Jamie. Tony talks to editors Dr Linden Bicket and Dr Emma Dymock about the incredible breadth of writing inspired by religion and faith across 15 centuries.

The band Squeeze mark their 50th anniversary this year, and Tony talks to founder member Chris Difford - an Ivor Novello award-winning songwriter and one of the UK’s most respected performers - about his career and spiritual life.

It’s 100 years since Eric Liddell became a sporting legend by winning the 400 metres gold at the 1924 Paris Olympics. John MacMillan of the Eric Liddell Community talks about the plans to keep his sporting legacy alive, as well as his later life as a devout Christian and missionary.

Joining Tony to reflect on some of the news stories of the week from a more ethical and philosophical perspective are writer, broadcaster and member of the Jewish Reform Community, Dr David Goodman; social researcher and equalities campaigner Talat Yaqoob; and Nick Spencer, author and Senior Fellow at the faith think tank Theos.

As we emerge from the election build up and results, the role religion and faith plays in political and public life.

In South Korea, parents with children who have withdrawn from society are putting themselves into isolation to try and understand what they are going through. But can you ever put yourselves in someone else’s shoes?

And in this summer of elite sport, a new documentary ‘Younger: Looking Forward To Getting Older’, celebrates track and field athletes still competing in their 60s, 70s and 80s. How do we view older members of our communities, and do we underestimate them?
