Good Friday Reflections and Music
The Revd. Kate Bottley marks Good Friday with an evening of music and personal stories drawing on the themes of sacrifice, forgiveness and hope.
The Revd. Kate Bottley hosts an evening of music, personal stories and reflections to mark Good Friday.
She speaks to Jo Hamilton, one of the many sub postmasters and sub mistresses who were wrongly accused of theft, fraud and false accounting due to a defective IT system. Her plight caught the public imagination when she appeared in the drama, Mr Bates versus The Post Office. In court, 70 relatives and friends packed into Winchester Crown Court to support her, personal references were handed to the judge and the the local vicar spoke in her defence, sayingβ―βShe loves serving the people of our community. In many ways, I feel that she is more of a priest in the village than I amβ. Jo explains how the church community helped her through one of the most difficult times in her life.
Kate also finds out why City Trader, Gary Stevenson found the pursuit of money didn't bring happiness, how gospel singer Sarah Teibo drew strength from her Christian faith when she was diagnosed with cancer last year and how a sermon persuaded Musical Director, Becky Dell to get involved in helping to establish the Citizens of the World Choir, which comprises refugees and asylum seekers.
Sister Hilda (Fenella Woolgar) shares facts around Good Friday and there's specially recorded music from The Songs of Praise and Radio 2 Senior Young Chorister of the Year, Natalie as well as The Citizens of the World Choir.
