Strike! The Women Who Fought Back

In their own words, this is the story of six women from the south Wales valleys and how they helped sustain the bitter year-long miners' strike, changing their lives forever.

Forty years ago, one of the longest and most hostile industrial disputes Britain had ever seen erupted across the country. Coal miners from all over Wales took to the picket lines to save their pits and their jobs. But it wasn’t just the men who decided to fight.

Thousands of women organised, campaigned and picketed on a scale that had never been seen before. From making sure families had food to survive, to confronting policemen at colliery gates, they came out of the shadows of the men, determined to protect their way of life and their communities.

In their own words, with unflinching honesty, humour and detail, this is the story of six women from across the south Wales mining valleys. It tells how they played an essential role in sustaining a bitter year-long struggle, and how it in turn would transform their own lives forever.
