Episode 3

Episode 3 of 6

Jack deals with an abusive drunk hotel guest, and mentor Jenny encourages Philippa to take the lead on a domestic incident.

Philippa and Jenny catch up with a woman who has climbed out of the window of a second-floor flat. After listening to her, Philippa reflects on the privilege of being raised in a safe and stable home.

Twenty-six-year-old PC Jack has been on the force for just a year, but policing is something that runs in the family - he has even inherited his stepdad’s old collar number. Jack and response partner Rachel are called out to a hotel where a drunk male guest is causing a disturbance after losing his phone. The guest refuses to give his details – at times like this, Jack becomes aware of his age. The guest becomes hostile, and Jack must manage him as he reflects on how being assertive is a necessary part of being an officer.

Next, we’re with young sergeant Dom and response partner Dan, who he has taken under his wing. They are called out to an incident of a male threatening his neighbour with a knife. When they arrive, the neighbours both accuse one another but, with help from eyewitnesses, Dom uncovers the truth. As the officers attempt to arrest the suspect, he becomes aggressive, and Dom must act quickly to keep his team safe. Back at the station, Dan discusses what happened, and Dom offers support and advice.

New PC Philippa is now just seven weeks into her time on the force. She hits the gym with her mentor Jenny. Jenny is an avid gym-goer, but Philippa is a self-confessed McDonald's and chocolate girl! Over pull-downs and leg presses, Jenny tells Philippa she thinks she’s ready to take more responsibility on their call-outs.

Later in the episode, Philippa and Jenny are at a follow-up enquiry on a domestic incident. They arrive to broken glass and a visibly shaken man who was woken in the night by his partner. Despite feeling a little out of her depth, Philippa takes the lead in asking questions to understand more about the relationship. It’s a tricky case, but Philippa feels the satisfaction of building a connection with a victim.
