Episode 1

Episode 1 of 6

Jake is back on response with a foot chase through a restaurant, new PC Philippa makes her first arrest, and young sergeant Dom faces a challenging search for a missing person.

Back on the beat with Leicestershire’s youngest cops, familiar faces and new recruits reveal the challenges of frontline policing, and how their friendships and camaraderie get them through even the toughest shifts.

The episode kicks off with a grade one call-out for 26-year-old PC Jake Bull. At the end of series one, Jake was seconded to join the child exploitation unit, but a year later, he’s back doing what he loves best: response.

New to the series is 23-year-old Philippa. She is as fresh as they come and only on week three as a PC. She admits to feeling overwhelmed – her new motto is ‘fake it ‘til you make it’. She’s mentored by 26-year-old Jenny. The pair are called to an electronic tag breach, and the suspect owns an XL bully dog that’s known to be violent. It’s Philippa’s first ever arrest – with a dangerous dog on the scene and the pressure of the arrest, she’s definitely feeling the nerves. Will she remember the words of the caution correctly?

Dom, 27, is a rising star of the Leicestershire police service and a year into the role of sergeant, but he is still finding his feet. Dom and response partner Dan search for a missing person who has taken an overdose in a park. Every second is vital - it’s cold, it's dark, and there’s a huge amount of land to cover. Dom credits his firefighter dad for inspiring him into the high-adrenaline world of the emergency services and his mum, a special educational needs teacher, for his empathy. Reflecting on the evening with Dan, he shares how even as a sergeant, he still finds nights like this challenging.

Philippa's first night-time economy shift with Jenny is a wild one. It’s payday weekend, freshers' week and a full moon, which can only mean one thing… utter chaos. Private school-educated Philippa has never had a fight and doesn’t even play contact sports, so she’s plunged into the deep end when she has to secure an aggressive male with Jenny.
