Who's up for Ten To The Top
Soul sensation Beverley Knight shares her musical choices all this week on Tracks of My Years.
Soul sensation Beverley Knight takes us on a 10-song life journey this week in Tracks Of My Years.
In a star-studded career spanning nearly three decades, Beverley - once nicknamed 'Little Aretha' - has released nine albums, supported Prince and is synonymous with songs such as 'Shoulda Woulda Coulda', 'Greatest Day' and 'Come as You Are'.
In 2013, she moved successfully into the world of musical theatre, playing Rachel Marron in The Bodyguard. This was followed by a leading role in Memphis the Musical, as well as starring in the The Drifters Girl and Sylvia - where she won an Olivier Award for best supporting actress. And last summer Bev was part of Sister Act for a six week run, a role she’ll revisit next year.
In September she'll release her brand new album 'The Fifth Chapter', and in the autumn Beverley will take on her biggest ever UK tour to date, with twenty special headline dates across the UK.
But before all that Beverley is one of the performers at Radio 2 In The Park in Leicester on the 16th and 17th September. Other artists playing at Victoria Park across the weekend include Kylie Minogue, Tears For Fears, Busted and so many more, and you'll be able to enjoy the whole thing on Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Sounds and iPlayer.
Beverley's next two choices are from Sounds of Blackness and Chaka Khan.
Plus there'll be more audio nuggets from the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Archive in Vernon's Vault; and there's the mid-morning music quiz, Ten To The Top.
Whatever you're up to, Vern wants to hear from you - email vernon@bbc.co.uk - and if you’d like to apply to take part in Ten To The Top, the address you need is tentothetop@bbc.co.uk
