Geamaichean an Uabhais 鈥 Munich/Terror at the Games 鈥 Munich
The Munich Olympics were to present the Federal Republic of Germany as a young, cosmopolitan democracy. But the games will always be remembered for the events of September 5.
Bha Geamaichean Oilimpigeach Mhunich a鈥 dol a thaisbeanadh Poblachd Feadarail na Gearmailt mar dheamocrasaidh 貌g, ioma-chultarail. Ach, bidh cuimhne gu br脿th air na 鈥済eamaichean c脿irdeil鈥 airson na thachair air an 5mh den t-Sultain an uair a thug am buidheann palastinianach 鈥淏lack September鈥 aon deug l霉th-chleasaichean 脿 Israel am bruid. Goirid an d猫idh meadhan oidhche, chaidh feuchainn ris an fheadhainn a chaidh a thoirt am bruid a sh脿bhaladh, ach dh鈥 fh脿illig seo. An uair a stad na gunnaichean a losgadh, bha an fheadhainn am bruid 脿 Israel, oifigear poilis 脿 taobh an iar na Gearmailt agus c貌ig ceannarcaich Palastinianach nan laighe marbh. Tha 鈥淕eamaichean an Uabhais 鈥 Munich鈥 ag ath-chruthachadh an l脿 bho dhiofar sheallaidhean, an l脿 a tha cuid a鈥 smaoineachadh a th貌isich ceannairceachd eadar-n脿iseanta. Tha buill dhen sgioba 脿 Israel a fhuair 脿s be貌, oifigearan poilis Gearmailteach agus airson a鈥 chiad turas a-riamh, dithis de na Palastinianaich a bha an urra ri daoine a thoirt am bruid, ag innse an cuid sgeulachdan
The Munich Olympic Games were to present the Federal Republic of Germany as a young, cosmopolitan democracy. But the 鈥渇riendly games鈥 will always be remembered for the events of September 5, when the Palestinian organisation 鈥淏lack September鈥 took 11 Israeli athletes hostage.
Shortly after midnight, the hostage situation ended in a failed rescue attempt. When the gunfire stopped, all the Israeli hostages, one West German police officer and five Palestinian terrorists lay dead.
鈥淭error at the Games 鈥 Munich鈥 reconstructs the day from various perspectives, the day many consider to be the birth of international terrorism. Surviving members of the Israeli team, German police officers and for the first time ever, the two surviving Palestinian hostage-takers, tell their stories.
