Oidhche Gun Tamh | Lewisian Nights

Sùil spòrsail air ais air leth-cheud bliadhna de cheòl pop agus roc air Eilean Leòdhais. A fun-filled look back at 50 years of pop and rock music on the isle of Lewis.

Thug telebhisean agus Top of the Pops ceòl pop gu Leòdhas anns na 1960an agus thug e buaidh air saoghal a’ chiùil bheò ionadail sa bhad. Agus nuair a chur clàran agus rèidio gun cheadachd gnèithean leithid country agus blues dhan mheasgachadh, bha òigridh chruthachail an eilein air am brosnachadh. San leth-linn bhon uairsin, tha saoghal a’ chiùil air a bhith suas is sìos, ach gu o chionn ghoirid, bha e air bhoil.
Tha an neach-ciùil ionadail Iain MacAoidh a’ toirt sùil bhàidheil thar nam bliadhnachan agus a’ beachdachadh air dè a tha san amharc.

Television and Top of the Pops brought pop music to Lewis in the 1960s and began to impact the local live music scene immediately. When records and pirate radio added genres like country and blues to the mix, creative local youngsters picked up every ball and ran with them. In the half century since then, the scene has waxed and waned, but until recently the trajectory was very much up. Local musician Iain Mackay takes a fond look over the years and wonders what the future holds.
