Leila Navabi: Funny, Gay and Welsh
23-year-old actor Leila Navabi writes her first ever hour-long comedy show whilst also confronting the reasons why she left home at the age of 17 after being ‘outed’ to her parents.
This poignant, warm and often funny film follows 23-year-old Leila Navabi - one of the emerging voices on the Welsh comedy scene - as she revisits the traumatic events in her childhood that caused her to leave home at the age of 17.
At an age when many young people are just starting out on their careers, the star and co-writer of Â鶹ԼÅÄ Three sitcom pilot Vandullz and co-presenter of CÂ鶹ԼÅÄ’s Don’t Blame Me, Blame My Brain has already covered a phenomenal amount of ground. And, in her own words, it’s because she had to.
Leila confronts painful moments from her past and explores why she chose to run away to London after being outed to her parents as a lesbian. We’ll be with Leila as she recalls a childhood devoid of organisations to help her navigate the most difficult time in her life.
Now, seven years on, she’s decided to give Wales another chance and has moved back in with her parents, but she’s not yet convinced that Cardiff can become her ‘forever’ home. We’ll follow Leila’s personal story as she attempts to make up her mind and asks – is it any easier to grow up gay in Wales than it used to be?
