PHONE-IN: COST OF LIVING

McDonald's has put up the price of its cheeseburger for the first time in more than 14 years, due to growing cost pressures. The fast food chain said its UK restaurants would be adding between 10p and 20p to a number of items. The price of a cheeseburger has increased from 99p to 拢1.19.

Also this week Amazon announced it will raise the price of the Prime service for UK customers due to higher operating costs. From September, monthly subscriptions will go up 拢1 to 拢8.99 and annual membership will rise from 拢79 to 拢95. Amazon said the price rise, its first in the UK since 2014, was partly due to inflation, which is at a 40-year high.
