St. Vincent on the holy grail of songwriting, heart-shattering lyrics and Robert Wyatt

Arlo shares an hour of personal songs and stories. Also, St. Vincent joins to swap tracks and reflections on songwriting and the gulf between understanding and imagination.

Step into Arlo’s inner world for an hour of music and musings on creativity, comfort and inspiration. She’s called it Dream Fuel - a scrapbook in sound of her favourite tracks, poems, personal voice notes, field recordings and special guests.

In this episode, Arlo is joined by the Grammy Award-winning musician, composer and producer St. Vincent. Together they swap special songs and stories, from the dangerous sexy sounds of Deftones and Depeche Mode to the power of lyrics with Robert Wyatt and Kate NV. They also discuss the β€˜holy grail' of songwriting, the gulf between understanding and imagination, and how they love music that both disrupts and soothes the listener.

Also, Arlo shares some tracks close to her heart from the likes of LCD Soundsystem, Flying Lotus and Yo La Tengo, as well as reflections on recurring dreams and the importance of songs that make you feel less alone.

Arlo Parks is a London born singer-songwriter and poet, who came onto the music scene back in 2019. Her debut album, Collapsed in Sunbeams, won the 2021 Mercury Prize, and in the same year she won Best New Artist at the Brit Awards.
