08/11/21 Climate change report says eat less meat; Cultivation.
We need to eat less meat, just 300g per person, per week, to tackle global warming says new report, but UK farmers say they don't need to cut livestock numbers. Cultivating soil.
Compassion in World Farming says governments are irresponsible to ignore the impact of livestock farming across the world on climate change, and they say COP26 is not doing enough to highlight the drastic changes we need to make to our diets. A report recommends we eat no more than 300 g of meat per person, per week, to bring down emissions. The NFU insists UK livestock farming is among the most efficient and sustainable in the world and that more consumers should be eating British meat.
Cultivation used to mean ploughing but, partly because of concerns about disturbing the soil and releasing carbon, it's now a bit more complicated. All week we'll be looking at cultivation, from ploughing to no-till and everything inbetween.
