Gary Davies sits in, with James Morrison and Joanna Lumley
Gary talks to James Morrison about his brand new single and upcoming Greatest Hits album and Joanna Lumley discusses a new book she has edited, A Queen For All Seasons.
Award-winning singer-songwriter James Morrison tells Gary about his brand new single, ‘Who’s Gonna Love Me Now?’ and his upcoming and first ever Greatest Hits album. James returned to the studio with his long-term producer Mark Taylor to record new, refreshed versions of thirteen of his classic songs, including all five of his Top 10 singles, alongside his regular live band.
Actress, presenter, former model and Bond Girl Joanna Lumley discusses a new book she has introduced and edited ahead of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee next year, A Queen For All Seasons. This book celebrates Queen Elizabeth’s 70-year reign with writings, snapshots and insights around key moments over her reign from those who have encountered Her Majesty.
Plus, it’s The Why Workshop, and Gary quizzes the QI Elves with more wonders and ponders, including your questions.
Along with Adam Porter on news, Richie Anderson on travel and Mike Williams on sport, Gary and the gang have the best start to your morning. With celeb guests, quizzes, headlines and more music than you can shake a glitterball at!

Pause For Thought
Today's budget day!I will, of course, be glued to my radio, but that’s just because of an accident this morning with some evo-stick…Anyway, every year we all want to know "What's in it for me?"We all fear what The Two Ronnies once joked about, “The government is about to introducea new three part tax form - what have youearned, what have you spent, send us the rest!”But isn't it funny that so many of us resent paying taxes and yet every year when Children in Need, for example, comes around we give so much.Maybe it's just that "running the country" is very hard to imagine, while a starving child or a community project right there on our screens we can understand much more easily.
Of course, through tax we help those at the bottom of the pile, here and abroad. But we’re still not terribly keen on paying it. I keep coming back towhat Jesus said about love, he didn't say "love the world" or “love the whole country.”He said, "love your neighbour."Through tax I help with the NHS, I support the poorest, I even help with the climate emergency - Cop 26 is about to start just up the road from me - tax is one way to love my neighbour. But Ican do stuff on my own to help:I can stop fighting with those whose views aren’t the same as mine, I can help the family next door, give stuff away.Budgets are for the big picture – but I believe love is for the person you see beside you.
So, I reckon every day can be a budget day, where I remind myself to budget my time, my care and my money for others. Today, however, like most, I’ll still be wondering what’s in it for me – and I personally will be especially looking at tax on….booze.It raises so much tax I tell myself that I should drink more - it's patriotic! And it is – my eyeballs end up red white and blue!
