Rex is left disappointed and who will take the spotlight at the Harvest Supper?
It’s the Harvest Supper in the Brookfield Barn. Jill is the compere for the evening, and Bert Fry is set to read from his A Borsetshire Lad collection. Kenton reads some of it to David and Elizabeth, who observe that Ambridge must be in their blood – they’re all still in the village, together, after all these years. They reminisce for a while, and as their mum makes her speech, they all pledge to meet up in 20 years. They drink a toast to Ambridge soil.
Jill’s surprised to see Rex, who was meant to be meeting his dad, Robin, for dinner tonight. Rex explains Robin pulled out at the last minute. He’d had been looking forward to showing Robin the rewilding project. Sensing his dejection, Jill invites Rex to sit with her, and they listen to Bert’s poem together. Rex is pleased it goes down well with their fellow diners, and that Bert has sold all his copies of A Borsetshire Lad for charity. Jill confesses she’s mentioned to Bert that Rex is at a loose end tomorrow, and that Bert might like to be shown the rewilding area. Rex affirms he’d be pleased to give Bert a tour in place of his dad. He and Jill drink a harvest toast: all is safely gathered in.
