Jazzmeia Horn Interview
Jamie is joined on the show this week by American vocalist, composer, songwriter and arranger Jazzmeia Horn.
Jamie’s guest on the show this week is the American vocalist, composer, songwriter and arranger Jazzmeia Horn.
Originally from Texas, Jazzmeia grew up in a musical family and learnt fast, beginning to sing in the adult church choir at just three years old. After moving to New York, her vocal talents ranging from singing, to scatting, to spoken word saw her career take off—winning the prestigious Sarah Vaughan International Jazz Competition, and earning Grammy nominations for her first two albums.
Jazzmeia Horn and Her Noble Force’s new record, Dear Love, is an ambitious big band project featuring arrangements by Jazzmeia herself and a lush mix of original pieces and fresh takes on jazz standards.
Jazzmeia tells Jamie about transitioning into writing music, what she got from the greats like Betty Carter and Sarah Vaughan and the urge to record a big band album early in her career.
