Mark Kavuma Take 5

Jamie is joined on the show this week by the trumpeter and composer Mark Kavuma for a Take 5 interview.

Jamie’s guest on the show this week is the trumpeter, composer, educator and label boss Mark Kavuma, who joins him for a Take 5 interview.

Mark first picked up the trumpet in secondary school before quickly joining the South London carnival band Kinetika Bloco—a move that kick started his passion for music, and saw him meet many of the players who would become key figures in the current thriving UK jazz scene.

Fast forward through guest appearances with Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, playing at the Proms and touring the world with theatre productions, and we arrive at β€˜Arashi No Ato’—Mark’s new album with his band, The Banger Factory.

Mark Kavuma talks about discovering Miles Davis, being blown away by Sonny Rollins and landing on the title for his new record, which means β€˜after the storm’ in Japanese.
