Episode 13
The keepers are trying a new strategy to get the koalas mating - they have paired up two couples in separate enclosures. But aggression soon threatens the breeding programme.
Today, aggression between the koalas is threatening the success of the park's breeding programme. It has been a year since the keepers started to notice mating behaviour in koala creek, but sadly there have been no babies yet, so they are going to try a new strategy. They have decided to pair up two couples in separate enclosures in the hope that love will blossom. This is the only breeding programme for southern koalas outside Australia, so the stakes are high. But when there are signs of aggression between one of the pairs, the keepers have to decide whether to step in or stand back and observe.
Elsewhere in the park, there is a new arrival - the first new show bird in over 20 years, a macaw called Bertie. But helping Bertie make the transition from pet to park resident is a challenge for the keepers. Gemma has to create a strong bond with Bertie from the moment he arrives, but he proves quite shy. It can take months or even years to build a rapport with a parrot, so can Gemma and Bertie become BFFs?
Ben gets reacquainted with an old friend he first encountered 20 years ago on Animal Park, royal python Hocus Pocus. And Jean Johansson tries to help Harry the lion sort out his matted mane.
