Episode 14
An armadillo emergency could spell the end for one of the park’s favourite couples, but what will the vet find when he comes to check on Polly?
One of the park’s favourite couples, armadillos Preston and Polly are due to be reunited to have another litter, but there’s a problem. Last year, Preston piled on the pounds and had to go on a diet before he could get back together with Polly. This year his diet has gone too well and now he’s underweight. Meanwhile, the keepers have made an even more worrying discovery with Polly. She is bleeding, and they need to figure out what’s making her sick. They call in the vets to try to diagnose her mystery illness, but what will the implications be for the future of the breeding programme?
The park’s famous lions never fail to impress the thousands of visitors who get an up-close view as they drive past them in the safari park. But whether they’re basking in the sunshine, tucking into a meaty treat or leaping up trees, are they just bigger and fiercer versions of our domestic moggies? Ben wants to find out, so he is trying to replicate a viral social media phenomenon that involved domestic cats sitting in boxes. Will the apex predators behave the same way?
Jean Johansson tries to get over her fear of goats, and wildlife photographer Hamza Yassin trains his powerful zoom lens on the park’s gorillas as they display some extraordinarily human-like behaviour.
