Is employing prisoners the answer to the backlog of pigs and a shortage of chicken? Charlotte Smith speaks to an industry spokesperson who thinks it would help.
There's a backlog of pigs, a shortage of chicken, and a distinct lack of people in meat processing across the board, that's according to representatives from the pig industry and meat processing industry. They tell Charlotte Smith that employing prisoners may be part of the solution but that changes to immigration policies may also be necessary. Anna Hill is with Poul Hovesen, who oversees the farming operations for several large estates in Norfolk amounting to tens of thousands of acres.
