APT Action on Poverty

APT Action on Poverty is a small dynamic charity working in partnership with local people to break the cycle of poverty. In Sierra Leone, 3 in 5 people live on less than £1 per day, but with Action on Poverty’s support to build the skills needed to earn a living, local people have the power and capability to transform their lives and communities for good.

Abie (on the right) was struggling to guarantee one meal a day for her two children, but she committed to learning literacy and numeracy, business skills and a trade as part of Action on Poverty’s project, and was able to set up a bakery business that increased her income tenfold.

This change becomes far-reaching and long-lasting

Abie can now guarantee two nutritious meals for her children so they can focus on their education, and she has grown her business to train and employ 3 more local people. Her bakery produces more food for the village, improving local food security so her whole community benefits.

It costs £27 for APT Action on Poverty to train people like Abie in basic business management skills, which will help them set up small businesses so that long after the project has ended people no longer face poverty and hunger.
