Jenna Preece: Our World

Welsh Actress and presenter Jenna Preece wonders how we can make our world more accessible and inclusive for disabled people as lockdown restrictions are lifted.

Jenna Preece is a disabled Welsh actress and presenter. She has been studying a masters degree at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama during the Covid pandemic and lockdown restrictions.

She’s a strong advocate for disabled rights and wants to highlight the positive aspects of the disabled community and how, with only small changes, we can make our society more accepting and inclusive.

For Our World, Jenna looks back on her course at the Royal Welsh College with her course leader, revisiting her first day, the challenges they have faced together, the support she has received and the barriers they struggled to overcome.

She also talks to a Cardiff-based theatre company which works from an accessible first standpoint - incorporating British Sign Language, captioning and audio description in performances from the outset rather than adding them on at the end.

She also talks to a Welsh paralympian about his experiences, as well as those of two carers of disabled people; asking each interviewee what one change they would make to the world for it to be more accessible and inclusive.

The answers are not what you would expect.
