Script

Good morning.

I remember sitting on a bus some years ago reading an article about how the mobile phones of the future would be everything – watch, calculator, newspaper, computer - and of course a phone too!  I couldn’t quite understand how that could all be possible back then…..how times have changed!

It’s 14 years ago today that the first smart phone was launched, and there really has been such a huge leap in technology since then.  I laugh when I think of the limitations of my first mobile phone, and yet I also know that my current phone can do so much more than I even understand.  I am content to be amazed by such things, rather than seek to fully understand them.

I’m always inspired by those who can think outside the box though.  We are all called to dream dreams and use the gifts of imagination and insight that we have, but undoubtedly we will act to fulfil that in different ways.  The world would still be waiting if I was expected to develop phone technology!!

Knowing ourselves well, and being encouraged to develop our skills and talents to their full, is a great gift.  There are many opportunities that might otherwise go wasted, when we don’t encourage and believe in one another, and all we have to offer.

I don’t think God asks us all to be the same – quite the opposite.  We are created in God’s image to become the best version of ourselves.  And it is when we have the right opportunities and support around us to flourish, that others benefit more widely too.

God….we thank you for creativity and imagination….and the gift to see and encourage that in one another.  Help us to keep dreaming dreams, and developing all you have given us.  Amen.
