Good morning.

Believe it or not 鈥� it鈥檚 the last day of June - and even with everything that we鈥檝e been facing these past months, the first half of the year seems to have gone quickly.

I don鈥檛 know if it鈥檚 the Scottish humour or not, but once you get past midsummer鈥檚 day we start to talk of the 鈥渘ights drawing in鈥濃��..it鈥檚 almost a cruel reminder that the long days won鈥檛 last and the seasons will turn鈥�.and yet there鈥檚 something strangely comforting in knowing that, despite all else that is uncertain, the movement of time is a constant thing.

One of my favourite places to visit in the summer is the islands of Orkney.聽 The light lingers long in the summer months up there, and around this time of the year barely goes down.聽 It can give a romantic notion of the islands, and yet in the winter there is so little light that daily life takes on quite a different cycle altogether.

Personally, I think I would struggle to live somewhere where the seasons didn鈥檛 make much difference鈥�.all of my life I have enjoyed the turning of the seasons, welcoming the colours of spring and autumn, coorie-ing doon a bit in the winter and embracing its darkness, while very much looking forward to all that even a Scottish summer can afford.

Just as the seasons of the year turn, so do different seasons in our life鈥�.times of growth and creativity鈥�.other times seasons of longing and hope鈥�..the changing world around us can help assure us of both the permanence and transience of such a time鈥�..

Eternal one, you are in all that lives, moves and has its being.聽 Remind us always of your presence and constancy, and to know the blessings you offer each day. Amen
