Steve Coogan tells Zoe about the return of Alan Partridge to Â鶹ԼÅÄ One with his show This Time. The first series was broadcast in 2019 when Alan was handed a career lifeline - the chance to stand in as co-host on the hit weekday magazine programme. In the first episode of the new series Alan is thrillingly in his depth, but with changes behind the scenes, his position could be in jeopardy. Alan was last heard in his podcast series for Audible in 2020, which was called, From the Oasthouse. As well as creating Alan Partridge, Steve Coogan has also starred in films; 24 Hour Party People, Around The World in 80 Days, Tropic Thunder and Stan & Ollie. He also co-starred with Rob Brydon in multiple versions of Michael Winterbottom's - The Trip. In 2013 he co-wrote and produced the Oscar nominated movie Philomena and starred alongside Dame Judi Dench.

Ore Oduba, the actor and presenter, tells Zoe about starring in the touring production of The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Ore will play the role of Brad Majors in the legendary musical extravaganza from Richard O'Brien. Joining Ore and returning to the cast of the Rocky Horror Show as Frank is Stephen Webb, alongside Philip Franks as The Narrator. They will be joined by fan favourite Haley Flaherty as Ja-net. Since it first opened in London in June 1973 at the Royal Court's Theatre Upstairs, Richard O’Brien’s Rocky Horror Show has become the world’s favourite Rock ‘N’ Roll musical, having been performed worldwide for over 45 years in more than 30 countries and translated into 20 languages.

Pause For Thought

Pause For Thought

Two t-shirts, a warm wool jumper, jeans, winter puffy coat, fluffy scarf and I was ready.ÌýÌýI did add a lick of lippy, normally reserved for my best Zoom calls, and had, as a special concession, even washed my hair. For this was no regular outing.ÌýÌýÌýDressed like Arctic explorers my husband Dan and I braved the elements, hailing a taxi for the first time in months, and cruising through quiet streets to London’s fashionable Kings Cross. Our mission, outdoor dinner with our friends Judy and Uri.Ìý

Ìý

The restaurant did their best – it was filled with people like me, desperate for some socially distanced but nonetheless social contact, meeting people they hadn’t been stuck inside with for months, for some cooking they hadn’t reluctantly rustled together themselves, and willing to sit outside on hard chairs covered with small blankets, on narrow pavements definitely not designed for today’s Covid café culture.Ìý

Ìý

Judy and Uri were late, unfashionably late, and by the time they arrived we had started the transition to ice cubes despite an environmentally unfriendly gas heater doing its best to keep us thawed.Ìý

Ìý

When it came, the food was fine, understandably a bit cold in the seemingly sub-zero evening air, but the pea soup at least, was warmer than me and by this stage this was all that mattered.ÌýÌý

Ìý

Well almost all that mattered.ÌýÌýOur friends had arrived full of apologies, gentle gossip, energy, and life.ÌýÌýWe laughed about the cold soup, we ordered white wine which chilled itself, we thanked the waiters profusely for the restaurant being open, and we made plans for a future when we can hug, travel and be inside.ÌýÌýWe were together and that was what mattered.

Ìý

A 13thÌýcentury rabbi and scholar, Asher ben Yechiel summed it up “if you have faithful friends, hold fast to them.ÌýÌýLet them not go for they are a precious possessionâ€

Ìý

We actually let Judy and Uri go relatively early so the staff could go home and we could thaw out, but even as I stripped off my layers of Arctic clothing, I was back on my computer booking another outing to share with my most precious possession, dear and special friends.Ìý
