Dua Lipa and Jake Tyler
Dua Lipa, the world's biggest popstar, talks to Zoe about her latest album. Jake Tyler, the mental health campaigner and writer, tells Zoe about his new book.
Dua Lipa, the world's biggest popstar, talks to Zoe about her Grammy Award winning album Future Nostalgia. Dua Lipa's success is incredible, Future Nostalgia was nominated for 6 Grammy's and won the award for Pop Vocal Album. It's officially the best selling album in the UK in 2021, despite the fact is was released in March 2010. Her hit single, New Rules, from her Mercury nominated debut album has surpassed 1.5 billion streams on Spotify, making it the 3rd most streamed solo track by a female artist in the platform's history. Dua is also the youngest ever female solo artist to hit 1 billion views on YouTube.
Jake Tyler, the author and mental health campaigner, tells Zoe about his new book - A Walk From the Wild Edge. It's a book about mental illness; a tale of adventure, endurance and self-discovery; and also a wonderful story about the kindness of strangers, the strength of humanity, and the beauty of Britain. Just before he turned 30 Jake’s mental health hit rock bottom and he came frighteningly close to taking his own life. He found the only way he could begin to understand himself and improve his state of mind was through exercising outdoors. This began as walking his mum’s dog, but quickly progressed into something bigger, and with only a rough idea of a route, a cheap tent, and a willingness to chat to anyone he met along the way, Jake set off on a 3000 walk (and then run) around the UK.
Along with Adam Porter on news, Jules Lang on travel and Mike Williams on sport, she and the team have the best start to your morning. With celeb guests, quizzes, headlines, tunes chosen by listeners, and more music that you can shake a glitterball at!

Pause For Thought
If the pandemic has been good for anything, it’s been good for our local park. During the first lockdown, kids made a line of hand-painted rocks that snaked for miles. Fairy houses with tiny doors, windows and picket fences appeared at the base of tree trunks, and a community library was set up. Thanks to the ingenuity of locals, the park has never been so alive!
Last week I discovered the epitome of these creative efforts. Following a dirt path into a cluster of trees, I found a hidden playground. Inside, a ladder made of sticks led up to a lookout, while a loop of rope around a pole made a zip wire between branches. Further in I found swings made from old wooden cable drums, a homemade cargo net to climb, and even a suspension bridge between trees. Such a magical world from just a few nails and string! Someone had turned a difficult lockdown into an adventure.
Adventure. Now there’s something I’ve missed. Whether flying to a new city or trekking a faraway path, I’ve missed that chasing of the sun towards a new horizon. Swiss psychiatrist Paul Tournier said adventure lies in our souls, and is the impulse behind all our inventions, whether of jazz, vaccines, pop art or space stations. He believed this adventurous impulse comes from us being made in God’s image. Just as God ventured to create new worlds and forges new paths in history, within us too is a drive to pursue new things.
According to Tournier, an adventure has four qualities. It should be personal, expressing our individuality. It should be innovative, bringing something fresh into the world. It should involve risk, which makes the adventure real, and it should be motivated by love, because an adventure is most joyful when it doesn’t just benefit us but others. I bet the imaginative minds behind it get a kick from others finding that hidden playground.
Whether trekking faraway paths or rekindling a marriage that’s grown distant, adventures of all kinds keep our heart beating. As tulips bloom after our long winter, as the sun shines and lockdown lifts, here’s to climbing trees and dreaming together. Here’s to setting off on new adventures.
