Gift Card Scams, Audio Cook Books, Remote Tech in the NHS
Cookery books are a big industry - the latest idea is a guide you listen along to as cook. Peter White attempts a sponge cake with the help of an audio guide.
You & Yours investigates gift card scams - where individuals are targeted and convinced to visit multiple retailers and purchase gift cards worth hundreds of pounds. Retailers are aware of these scams, and have policies in place to limit spend and warn customers they may be a victim of fraud. But this programme has found cases where retailers have failed to do this.
Cookery books are big business for publishers, celebs and chefs bring out new books every year. The latest idea is audio cook books. Ruby Tandoh, food writer and Great British Bake Off runner up, has published an audio baking guide, in which she describes each step whilst you do it in your kitchen. Peter White, presenter of You & Yours and In Touch, has given it a go at home to see if it might be a useful alternative for people who are blind or partially sighted.
The covid-19 pandemic has changed many things about how the NHS works. One of the biggest changes is remote or virtual appointments. The Royal Bradford Infirmary is trialling a device that links with a smart phone, and can be used to monitor breathing, heart rate, temperature and to check the ears, nose and throat. It's been a big help in paediatrics, helping families stay at home rather than face multiple hospital appointments.
