On this week’s Pipeline with Gary West some great names from the piping past share the bill with some of the players who look set to shape our piping future. From the past masters, look out for a mega set of marches from a man who was recognised as a future star back in the 1950s – John D Burgess - while there are tunes too from one of the players who put New Zealand piping firmly on the map two generations ago, Bill Boyle. And completing the hat trick of piping maestros, our Pibroch of the Day comes from one of the great players and teachers of his generation, Hugh MacCallum. Following on from last week’s featured performance of Martyn Bennett’s orchestral piece, MacKay’s Memoirs, Hugh performs the tune which served as the inspiration for that, the Lament for Mary Macleod. And looking to those who are already shaping things for the years ahead, feast your ears on the playing of Brighde Chaimbeul and John Dew.
