The hugely innovative piper, composer and multi-instrumentalist, Martyn Bennett, passed away in 2005 at the age of just 33, but his influence on the contemporary musical landscape of Scotland remains as strong as ever. To mark what would have been his 50th birthday this year, join Gary West on Pipeline as he reflects on Martyn’s relationship to the piping tradition, past and present, and his exploration of the use of bagpipes on his recorded output including a full performance of his pibroch inspired orchestral work, Mackay’s Memoirs.
