Celebrating the incredible work of Steve Mac - one of the UK's most successful songwriters and producers of the past 30 years.
In a rare interview, Steve talks to Scott about his career, which has seen him go from the teaboy in a recording studio, to working with some of the biggest stars in music, and helping many on their way over the past three decades.
Scott also chats to Kian Egan from Westlife, Mabel and Tom Walker about the important role that Steve's played in the biggest songs of their careers, as he tries to discover the secret of Steve's success over the years.
Steve Mac's first hits in the early 1990s were crossover dance records, and were followed by more chart success as the cover versions act Undercover. A love of ballads and a move towards working with boybands, saw him work with Boyzone, Damage and Caught In The Act, before Steve and his writing partner Wayne Hector were asked by Simon Cowell to help with the auditions for a new boyband.
That started a long association with Westlife, which includes co-writing and producing many of their signature songs, including Flying Without Wings, Swear It Again, What Makes A Man, World Of Our Own and their version of You Raise Me Up. He was also a major part of their successful 2019 reunion album Spectrum and was even invited to play piano for them at two special shows on their Twenty tour.
Steve's association with Simon Cowell has seen him work with many of the artists discovered via the TV shows that he's been a judge on - Pop Idol, American Idol, The X Factor and Britain's Got Talent, including Little Mix, One Direction, Susan Boyle, Leona Lewis and Olly Murs, as well as being involved with the formation of Il Divo.
In the 2010s, Steve was involved in massive hits by P!nk, Mabel, Jess Glynne, Rita Ora, Marshmello, Tom Walker, Clean Bandit, Liam Payne, Jax Jones and The Chainsmokers.
But there was no hit bigger than Shape Of You, which he co-wrote and produced, and was also the song that started a very successful relationship with Ed Sheeran.
