Derek Mahon: The Poetry Nonsense
In this autobiographical film, the late Derek Mahon revisits his childhood in north Belfast, as well as travelling to Dublin and London to reconnect with friends and fellow poets.
Documentary profiling the late Belfast poet Derek Mahon.
Mahon takes viewers on a personal journey from his childhood home in Glengormley, Belfast, his secondary schooling in Belfast Academical Institution, third-level education in Trinity College, Dublin, and on to London, where he worked as a journalist and screenplay writer for the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ.
Throughout the film, there are contributions from fellow Belfast poets, including the late Seamus Heaney, Michael Longley, Gerald Dawe and Frank Ormsby. There are also contributions and evaluations of the poet's work from Hugh Haughton (author of The Poetry of Derek Mahon), Belfast writer Patricia Craig, and literary critics Terence Browne and Edna Longley.
