Flo & Joan

Rev Kate Bottley meets musical comedy duo Flo & Joan to talk about growing up in a vicarage and why we all love Victoria Wood. Plus Manchester's Muslim Arts & Culture Festival.

Flo & Joan are a musical comedy duo whose songs have racked up 50 million views online. Following a sell-out Edinburgh Fringe Show and two TV comedy specials, sisters Nicola and Rosie Dempsey are about to head out on a big headline tour. They tell Rev Kate Bottley about music, comedy and why we all love Victoria Wood, growing up in a vicarage and how they dealt with online abuse after appearing in a national TV advert.

This month Manchester plays host to MACFEST, a Muslim Arts and Culture Festival with over 50 events across the region celebrating the diversity and richness of Muslim heritage. Qaisra Shahraz is a successful novelist and the founder of MACFEST, she tells Kate how she wants the festival to bring people together across different communities. Plus Maryam Wahid is a young award-winning photographer from Birmingham taking part in the festival. Her self-portrait wearing the clothes her mother wore when she arrived in the UK from Pakistan, won the 2018 Portrait of Britain prize at the British Journal of Photography. She tells Kate about why she wants to make sure Britain's South Asian community are represented in art.

Plus Kate talks to another Charity Champion going out of their way to help others. If you'd like to nominate somebody extraordinary who gives up their time to volunteer or fundraise we'd love to hear from you. Email gms@bbc.co.uk.
