Episode 6 of 10

A patient at Glasgow Airport is safely stowed onto the ambulance service's fixed-wing aircraft for a transfer back home to Stornoway after treatment in hospital.

This episode follows ambulance crews in Aberdeen and Edinburgh and the special operations response teams from the east and west of Scotland as they deal with the most serious calls.

In Edinburgh, an emergency on Arthur’s Seat sees the team deploy their off-road vehicle, while elsewhere in the capital, a builder has had his hand crushed by a skip and needs urgent treatment if he is not to lose some fingers.

Outside Glasgow, the team for the west of Scotland is called to a possible drowning which requires their special skills and equipment to try and retrieve a body from the water.

In Aberdeen, Ewan and Alan transfer one of the oldest patients they have encountered to hospital. The patient is a 102-year-old lady with breathing problems who needs treatment. Back in the east, the team based close to Edinburgh have a call to a crash involving a car and a tram.

In Peterhead, near Aberdeen, a seriously ill patient needs emergency stabilisation on the way to hospital. She is in palliative care and could go downhill fast.

And at Glasgow Airport, a patient is safely stowed onto the ambulance service’s fixed-wing aircraft for a transfer back home to Stornoway after treatment in hospital.
