Getting the garden ready for autumn and winter

Nicola Singleton shows us the things you should do to prepare your plants, lawn and indoor flowers for the coming season. We'll also be cooking with brambles and butternut squash.

It is getting colder, the nights are drawing in, but do not hibernate just yet. Nicola Singleton is in Inverness to help Jenny MacPherson sort out her garden for autumn and winter. What should we cut back and what should we keep? Which plants need splitting and which need shifted inside? As the temperature drops how should we look after the lawn? Nicola rummages in Jenny’s shed to see which tools could do with some care before they are stored away. Yoga instructor Laura McCrimmon has some advice for taking care of your back after a day in the garden. Andrew Thomson hears how to diagnose Dutch Elm disease. Turning on the heating can cause havoc for your indoor plants, so we have a few simple steps will make sure they will survive until the spring. In the kitchen, Kirsten Gilmour makes butternut squash hash, and Saurav Kumar turns our autumn brambles into a healthy panna cotta.
