Giantkillers: The Team That Wouldn't Die

The David and Goliath story of Newport County AFC, the team that refused to die. Three decades later they are back in the football league and the darlings of football fans everywhere.

This year battling Newport County became the darlings of the football world by dumping former Premiership Champions Leicester out of the FA Cup and then going toe to toe with the world's richest club - Manchester City. The fact that Newport even has a football side however is a minor miracle.
Thirty years ago the club was wound up after relegation and bankruptcy had seen them drop out of the league and out of existence and if not for a group of die-hard supporters it would have vanished completely. Instead they spent the next three decades making sure their city had a football team again.
This documentary follows the 'Amber Army' over the course of their epic giant killing FA Cup run, while at the same time looking back to the time when the fans had to take on what was left of the club and bring it back from the dead. This involved playing matches in exile, 80 miles away in England and then taking on their local council, the FA of Wales, Uefa, Fifa and even the International Court of Sporting Arbitration in order to see their team play in the city again.
On and off the field the club have had to punch above their weight and rely upon a never-say-die spirit that is part of the soul and fabric of Newport itself. As such this is a story which is about much more than just football.
Featuring unseen footage from their time playing in exile and interviews with former players and the supporters who fought to keep the club a going concern, this is a warm-hearted, funny and inspiring film about never giving in.
