Mental Health Awareness Week

The Reverend Kate Bottley and Jason Mohammad present ethical and religious issues, with guests and spiritual music.

To mark Mental Health Awareness Week, Kate and Jason are joined by guests who explain some of the techniques they are using to help people manage their mental health.

In May, the singing collective, Power of Muzik will join The Vamps on their 22 date UK tour. Founded by vocal coach CeCe Sammy, the Power of Muzik have been sharing their experiences and performing in schools around the country, promoting mental health awareness through music.
CeCe has coached singers on the X Factor, Pop Idol, and All Together Now. She says that using music therapy techniques has helped teenagers overcome many personal issues - whether it be societal or educational pressures.

Jaspreet Kaur says, ‘poetry saved her life’. She’s a history teacher with an impressive academic background but Jaspreet’s also an award-winning spoken word artist, a poet and a writer. For many years she has been dealing with crippling anxiety. Jaspreet believes poetry can help people unleash their emotions. She says, “I can now stand in front of the mirror and love who I see. When I found poetry, it was literally like I found my own inner superhero. I made it through my battle with depression and I survived.â€

Green ribbons, raising awareness of mental health just as pink ribbons raise breast cancer awareness, are being handed out to race goers by Debbie Newton, who hit the headlines at Ascot with her pilgrimage to see her idol Altior in action.

While receiving treatment for her mental health, Debbie Matthews started writing a blog documenting her brave solo visit to Ascot to see her favourite racehorse Altior. Debbie now raises awareness of mental health around UK racecourses and she joins Kate and Jason from Jersey Race Club ahead of a race meeting that will be raising funds for her cause.
