TREE AID

TREE AID’s aim is simple: to help people across the drylands of Africa and Ethiopia lift themselves out of poverty using trees. In the harsh environment where we work, crops often fail and with little income from anything else, adults and children face malnutrition and months with very little food.  Since 1987, we have helped 1.2 million people and grown almost 17 million trees in Burkina Faso, Mali, Niger, Ghana and Ethiopia.

Breaking the cycle of poverty

Breaking the cycle of poverty

Trees can break the cycle of poverty; they are hardy in times of drought, and provide vital food throughout the hungry months. TREE AID works with communities to grow and nurture trees, and to cultivate the nutritious fruits, nuts, leaves and seeds to eat, and they can also sell their tree produce at local markets to earn a much-needed income.

Petra’s story

Petra’s story

Petra (whose story you hear in the appeal) was struggling to feed her children after her husband died. But then she joined a TREE AID project and learnt how to produce shea butter from the nuts of the shea tree. She is now earning an income for the first time in her life and can buy food for her children. She says, “Since I got involved in the project I have been happy and relieved. My children aren’t hungry now.â€

Re-greening the landscape

Re-greening the landscape

In the last year alone, TREE AID has grown more than 2.5 million trees bringing about amazing benefits for the environment as well as the people living in this harsh region. Your support will help us plant more trees across the drylands of Africa and help more people like Petra lift themselves out of poverty. Thank you.
