Lexi takes charge, and Alan has an epiphany.

Johnny's tractor runs out of diesel in the middle of nowhere. When Ed stops to help, Johnny's embarrassed to learn that he's effectively poached Ed's job. But Ed still helps him get the tractor running. In return, Johnny promises to tell Adam he hasn't got time to cover all of Ed's work. Emma thinks Ed's too soft hearted. Adam needs to appreciate the downside of hiring a cheap, inexperienced worker.

Alan's disappointed to discover the panto's been cancelled. When he complains to Usha about the lack of community spirit in the village, she reminds him how hard Lynda always made people work. Reading St Augustin, Alan is inspired to take on the panto himself. Lynda's already found a script, so half the work's practically done.

At Grey Gables Roy and Lexi have a quiet word with Ian about a customer complaint against him. Roy tries to be diplomatic - the staff know that losing Carina as a surrogate has hit him hard. Lexi's more direct. Roy can't keep covering for Ian if his temper loses them customers. The criticism annoys Ian, who accuses them of gossiping about his private life. Later, Roy thanks Lexi for being such a good friend. She sees herself as more than that - she loves him. Lexi's worried she's embarrassed him, but Roy finally takes the opportunity to declare he loves her too.
