Ryanair Disruption Continues & The Countdown to Universal Credit

Universal Credit starts next week in Limavady - Linda visits the benefits centre in the town to find out more. Plus the Consumer Council with advice on the Ryanair situation.

The first phase of Universal Credit is due to roll out in Northern Ireland on Wednesday 23rd of September, which will replace six existing benefits with one. It will affect new claimants aged 18 through to State Pension Age. Linda visits the Jobs and Benefits centre in Limavady to speak to the staff along with putting questions to the Universal Credit Programme Director David Sales - beginning with 'why Limavady?' Linda asks; what's happening, what will people have to do, and will some people end up with less money than they're getting now?

Advice from Independent Travel Consultant Frank Brehany as this week saw 400,000 people's plans for holidays or business trips descend into chaos as Ryanair cancelled hundreds of flights. Chief Executive Michael O'Leary apologised to shareholders for what he described as "a mess of our own making."

Michael O'Leary promised that they would abide by EU legislation and that everyone whose flight was cancelled would get a refund. However we hear from one listener who has been trying to get a refund from Ryanair since April. His flight was delayed, he claimed compensation and Ryanair say they sent him a cheque - in fact according to their system the cheque was cashed on the 6th April. There is just one problem with that. His delayed flight was on the 10th April and we cant work out how Ryanair managed to give him compensation 4 days before the flight was delayed.

Plus, we hear from Director of Communications from Which on their call to ban flammable Fridge Freezers.
