Feen of the Tober
Tar le Jack Delaney ar thuras go tobar an dúchais agus éist le teanga lucht siúil na hÉireann. Jack Delaney introduces us to the language of the Travelling people of Ireland.
Is fear óg é Jack Delaney a bhfuil fíorbhród air as a oidhreacht féin mar dhuine den lucht siúil. Is amhranaí agus cumadóir ceoil é agus tá céim bainte amach aige sa nua-Ghaeilge ach is í an teanga ar a bhfuil sé ag díriú anois ná Shelta, Gammon, nó Cant - teanga dúchais an lucht siúil. Tá tionscadal uaillmhianach curtha ar bun aige anois le hacmhainn chuimsitheach dhigiteach den teanga a chruthú agus athbheochan teangan a chothú i measc an dream óg. Sa chlár fáisnéise trítheangach seo, léirithe ag Niamh Nic Oistigín, tugtar léargas iontach dúinn ar dhuine faoi leith agus ar theanga faoi leith, teanga atá fite fuaite le stair agus cultúr na hÉireann agus lenár n-oidhreacht mar phobal i gcoitinne.
Jack Delaney is a young Irish Traveller fiercely proud of his heritage. A talented singer and songwiter, he has a degree in Irish, but the language he wants to focus on now is Shelta, Gammon or Cant: the native language of the travelling community. His ambition is to create a comprehensive digital resource of the language including a mobile app, and in doing so spark a revival of interest and usage among young Irish Travellers. This trilingual documentary, produced by Niamh Costigan, is a fascinating portrait, both of a remarkable individual and of a unique language that has much to teach all of us about our collective history and heritage.
