Belinda Carlisle + Classic Vids

Watch a Runaway selection of Heaven On Earth 80s videos as Sara Cox chats to Belinda Carlisle about her life as a solo artist and as part of The Go Go's during the decade.

Watch a Runaway selection of Heaven On Earth 80s videos from Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Radio 2's Sara Cox, as she chats to Belinda Carlisle about her life as a solo artist and as part of The Go Go's during the decade.

Belinda takes us through her music career, beginning at the punk formation of The Go-Go's with her friends, through to her big solo break with the album Heaven On Earth, all the way to still performing on tour this year.

Belinda talks candidly about how fame inevitably led to drink and drugs, but how she still kept an authentic feminist approach to her work.

She shares her 'on the road' stories with Sara such as: trashing a hotel room (only to clear it up afterwards); and how The Go Go's supported The Police on tour (only to knock Sting and the boys off the number 1 album spot during that same tour).

Sara surprises Belinda with footage of The Go-Go's first UK TV appearance on The Old Grey Whistle Test in 1981, plus there's a chance to see the iconic videos for Heaven Is A Place On Earth and Leave A Light On.

We hear a choice of one of her favourite tracks from the 80s by Midnight Oil, plus Sara presents a selection of 80s pop videos, with everything from A-Ha to De La Soul to Rick Astley.

And as ever, catch the Top 5 Megamix, from this week in 1984, featuring the number 1 from the much-missed George Michael.
