Script

Good morning.

It may seem odd to speak about death when we have only just celebrated the Resurrection, but in actual fact the Resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ, is the greatest illustration of victory over death, and that is why we celebrate it.

As Christians we are called to see death merely as a door through which we enter an eternal life of joy. This can of course come through very painful means, and whether it be through illness, acts of terror, or through natural causes, death continues to cause us suffering. Despite its effect on us, however, we can be reassured that the effect of death is finite for it only becomes a point to which we enter into an infinite life.

Having said that, it is easy to speak here in a studio about death, but when one deals with this personally, and I do deal with many cases personally and pastorally, it is most certainly an overwhelming experience.

Terrorists use death as a tool for scaremongering, illness forces us to face death sooner than we anticipate, and the concept of losing a loved one is sometimes more than we can bear. Yet, let us remember, humanity is destined for eternity, and death is the means by which we reach that joyful beginning.Β  Let us strive then to use each moment of every day to work for good, to be the best we can be, and to look forward to the promised life to come.

Lord, help us to comfort each other at times of grief and loss. May Your promises of the life to come overshadow the pain that death causes in our lives here on earth.Β

Amen.
