2017 Edinburgh International Festival programme launch and Danza Contemporanea de Cuba

Edinburgh International Festival director Fergus Linehan discusses the 2017 programme, plus dance critic Mary Brennan reviews Danza Contemporanea de Cuba's UK tour.

Director of the Edinburgh International Festival, Fergus Linehan, discusses this summer's EIF programme, launched this morning.

Danza ContemporΓ΅nea de Cuba, the vibrant flagship contemporary dance company founded the same year as the Cuban revolution, is on tour in the UK. Dance critic Mary Brennan reviews the show.

We hear about the latest production from Barrowland Ballet: Seventy-five dancers, aged from 7-75, will take to the stage in Wolves, which opens at Tramway, Glasgow and The Beacon, Greenock, in March. It brings together performers from all walks of life; primary-aged children, teenagers, adults and older dancers, in a completely unique performance work, with a live folk-based score by award-winning folk musician Mairi Campbell and composer Luke Sutherland.

Jane Welsh Carlyle, wife of historian and philosopher Thomas Carlyle, has been brought out of the shadows in a new biography. Author Kathy Chamberlain joins Janice to talk about Jane, who was a highly-accomplished writer in her own right.

Faslane is a one woman show which explores the issues around the UK's nuclear missile programme and it's about to tour the country. Director, playwright and performer Jenna Watt tells us more.

The Dewar Arts Awards which support the brightest and best of Scotland's young artistic talent are 15 years old. Ahead of tonight's celebrations in Glasgow Award Chair Ruth Wishart tells us more, accompanied by folk musician Lauren McColl and artist Anthony Schrag who have both benefitted from the fund.
