Friends of the Elderly

Friends of the Elderly is one of the UK’s oldest charities supporting older people. The charity’s vision is a society where all older people are treated with respect and have the opportunity to lead fulfilled lives. Β We provide support, particularly for those in need due to mental or physical frailty, isolation or poverty. Our range of personalised care and support services includes care homes, befriending schemes and grants.

Loneliness on the rise

Loneliness on the rise

Over five million older people across the UK are affected by loneliness and this number is on the rise. Friends of the Elderly supports older people who have become lonely and isolated to reconnect with their communities and forge new friendships.

Football Friends

Football Friends

Our Football Friends programme, which Don (whose story you hear in our appeal) took part in, gives participants the opportunity to connect with fellow fans, bringing them together over their shared love of football. The group also learns digital skills so they can stay in touch with each other and the club when the programme ends. The programme is run in partnership with football clubs and other professional football organisations.

A helping hand

A helping hand

Our grants service provides financial help in the form of one-off grants and regular allowances for people of state retirement age. The aim of the service is to help relieve the stress and worry often experienced by those living on a low income.Β  One grant recipient told us, β€œI cannot thank you enough for the help you give me. You cannot imagine the difference – it is like a blanket on a cold night.”
