The plan - a large scale cull of badgers has been ruled out but under to tackling bovine Tuberculosis in cattle any infected badgers could be dealt with "humanely." A twelve week consultation is underway as views are sought on the new plans which include dividing up Wales into different areas with "high" and "low" incidences of the disease.
The Farmer - Farming unions had been calling for a badger cull to be included in the Welsh Government's new plans as the industry has been battling with the disease for decades. Nearly nine and a half thousand cows have been killed in Wales so far this year as a result of bovine TB. We speak to a farmer in Carmarthenshire who's herd has just gone down with TB
The Chief Vet, Christianne Glossop outlines the plans saying she is determined to tackle "chronic" TB in herds but claims a large scale cull of badgers is not appropriate or necessary in Wales.
Wildlife groups have long been opposed to a cull of badgers. We speak to the Wildlife Trust on the need to "find a long-term solution, based on good science"
