The Canadian navy will be heading to the coast of British Columbia to investigate claims that a diver may have come across a Mark IV nuclear bomb that went missing after an American B-36 bomber crashed in the region during the cold war. At least 200 prisoners are said to have taken over parts of Bedford Prison on Sunday evening amid reports of a βriotβ that lasted around six hours. The prison service said last night it had successfully resolved the disturbance. John Attard is national officer at the Prison Governorβs Association.

The ΒιΆΉΤΌΕΔ can reveal there is expected to be a major breakthrough for thalidomide survivors in the UK in their life-long battle for compensation from the German government. Within weeks campaigners say the two major political groupings in the European parliament, the European People's Party and the Socialists and Democrats, are set to back a resolution calling on Germany to allow UK survivors to access a special health fund set up to help the country's own 2,700 thalidomide victims. Thousands of households are expected to be affected by a new cap on benefits which comes into effect today. The cap reduces total household benefits from Β£26,000 pounds a year to Β£23,000 in London and Β£20,000 outside the capital. Damian Green is Secretary of State for Work and Pensions.

Beginning with Pieter Bruegel the Elder, the Bruegel was family of artists is perhaps one of the most important dynasties in the history of art, dominating Flemish painting from the late Renaissance to the 17th century. A work thought to have been by a copyist and archived in a collection in Bath as βafter Bruegelβ has been discovered to have been painted by Bruegel the Younger. Jennifer Scott is director of the Holburne Museum, and Michael Frayn is author of βHeadlongβ where a Bruegel has a starring role.

Theresa May is coming under pressure to ease visa restrictions on students and workers from India as she begins her trade mission to the country. As she arrived in Delhi last night, she announced new passport and visa arrangements for Indian business executives visiting the UK, but the Indian government is calling on her to go further. US-backed fighters in northern Syria have announced the start of a campaign to capture the Islamic State group's main stronghold in the country, the city of Raqqa.
