Build Africa is an award-winning development charity. We believe in the power of education to help end poverty, and work to ensure that children in rural Africa have the best opportunity to learn.

Gender inequality fuels poverty, and girls across Africa still face huge challenges simply getting a quality education. That鈥檚 why we work with vulnerable girls in rural communities where a mix of poverty and cultural practices can often leave them excluded from going to school.

Something as simple as proper sanitary protection can have a huge impact on the lives of girls like Anna, whose story features in our Radio 4 Appeal, helping them to stay in school and achieve their ambitions.

We train teachers in modern, engaging methods, and work to improve the school environment with better sanitation and access to water. We teach boys and girls how to stay healthy, and understand their rights and relationships.

We support girls to become role models in their communities and encourage them to explore further education or training. We work to combat negative attitudes towards women and girls, and train communities to respond to cases of neglect and abuse.
