Farming and wildlife, ploughing championships and crofting in Scotland

UK farmers are being praised for wildlife conservation, Yorkshire has been hosting the World Ploughing Championships and there are calls for an inquiry into Scottish crofting.

This week's State of Nature report is expected to paint a worrying picture of species decline on British farmland. But LEAF (Linking Environment and Farming) is defending the role farmers have in preserving wildlife. Yorkshire has been playing host to competitors from 31 countries at the World Ploughing Championships. It's the first time in 16 years that the competition has been held in the UK. But has the art of a ploughing a straight furrow died out in the age of GPS technology? The system of crofting in the Scottish Highlands and Islands is experiencing problems. Crofters are upset at recent actions by the Crofting Commission with claims that disagreements have escalated and calls for an inquiry. The Scottish Government insists that crofters' concerns are not being ignored
